The Life of a Nursing Home Resident
Ernie Ford, 86 years old, was one of 30 residents who moved from Baala House to the purpose-built Karinya in January 2005. It took the residents some time getting used to the move, but a major benefit has been that each resident now has their own private room and bathroom. This allows families and friends to visit their relatives in a private setting and creates a more homely environment. Ernie rates the staff at Karinya very highly.
State of the Art Facilities available to Community
Mary is an independent 89 year old woman who lives with her husband in Numurkah. Mary was admitted to NDHS following a fall in the community which resulted in an injury to her elbow. After being assessed by a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, District Nursing Service, Dietician and Social Worker – all these support people enabled Mary’s issues to be addressed and the appropriate referrals made to ensure a safe, appropriate and timely return to her home. Equipment and modifications were made to Mary’s home, all arranged by the Occupational Therapist. Home Help and Meals on Wheels service were also arranged for Mary to assist with domestic activities such as cleaning.
