1982 saw the construction of Numurkah’s first aged care facility, Baala House. It provided 20 high care beds for the aged. The main goal was for the residents of Baala House to feel really needed and to feel that they had a home away from home. In 1990 a 10 bed extension was completed, and in 2007 the building was demolished and a modern new facility was built, renamed Karinya Nursing Home.
PIONEER MEMORIAL LODGE
After successfully receiving $494,000 funding from the Government, Pioneer Lodge was built and opened in 1976. Residents’ units are contained in the wings, each unit having facilities for a small refrigerator, television set, radio, phone and tea making facilities, and a spacious shower-toilet area.
Renovations saw the total capacity for Residents extended to 36. The additional room is provided for Respite Care purposes so that families or friends caring for a relative can take a short break from this responsibility. The Pioneers Lodge has much to offer those in the community in need of a secure form of accommodation which maintains an independent lifestyle.
